18 The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless 19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.
12 For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.
19The law of Moses could not make anything perfect. But now a better hope has been given to us, and with this hope we can come near to God. 20It is important that God did this with an oath. Others became priests without an oath, 21but Christ became a priest with God's oath, God said: 'The Lord has made a promise and will not change his mind. You are a priest forever.'
22This means that Jesus is the guarantee of a better agreement from God to His people. 23When one of the other priests died, he could not continue being a priest. So there were many priests. 24 But because Jesus lives forever, he will never stop serving as priest. 26Jesus is the kind of high priest we need. He is holy, sinless, pure, not influenced by sinners, and he is raised above the heavens. 27He is not like the other priests who had to offer sacrifices every day, first for their own sins, and then for the sins of the people. Christ offered his sacrifices only once and for all time when he offered himself.
24But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever. 25Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save* those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.
26He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor in heaven.* 27Unlike those other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices every day. They did this for their own sins first and then for the sins of the people. But Jesus did this once for all when he offered himself as the sacrifice for the people's sins.
5They serve in a system of worship that is only a copy, a shadow of the real one in heaven.
7If the first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no need for a second covenant to replace it.
God speaks of a "new" covenant, it means he has made the first one obsolete. It is now out of date and will soon disappear.
The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, but he holds his priest hood permanently, because he continues forever. Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who drawnear to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them v.23-36

It's kinda cool that Melchizedek was the king of Salem. Salem means "peace". So, he was the king of peace. A type of Christ, no doubt.
Ric wrote:Kevin, I'm not sure if this fits here or not, but it kinda hit me when you mentiond what Christ means to the believer. To me, Christ is like that soldier who falls on an enemy grenade to save his team. The soldiers he dies saving are forever shaken to the core by it, and they honor his sacrifice for the rest of their lives, and live every day of thier lives in a manner that shows their honor and gratitude, because they know that on that day ever how many years ago, THEY could have been killed, had it not been for that one selfless act.

God writes his law on our hearts and minds v.10. He is now our God and we are His people! v.10 That is an amazing thing! We dont need people to tell us, "Hey, let me help you know God." We know Him personally! The poorest, weakest person to the strongest and most priviledged, all who come to Christ "they shall all know me." That blows me away everytime I pray! Who am I that God would come and speak to me privately? That He would spend time with me? That He would care to listen to my complaints and struggles? That He would use me for His glory and fill my life with His amazing goodness? I am a sinner! But He says, "I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more"v.12. Amen, thankyou Jesus! I hope that encourages everyone!

This is one of the most matter of fact statements in the Bible. The Old Testament is meant to be studied, and understood; and it is good that we have it. But it is not meant for us to follow the laws of the Old Testament. For we have been given a New Covenant and a New Testament, and it is in this New Covenant in which we live and follow.God speaks of a "new" covenant, it means he has made the first one obsolete. It is now out of date and will soon disappear.
